“I am deeply honoured and humbled to accept the JLDHE Article of the Year Award. I want to thank the reviewers and the editorial team, who recognised the value of my work and provided insightful feedback that greatly enhanced the quality of the article. I hope that this article will demonstrate that the field of learning development can be used as a lens to address the seemingly intractable and ‘wicked problems’ in higher education.”

Our winner of the Reviewer of the Year Award for 2024: Dr Vic Boyd

I am so, so grateful to the JLDHE Editorial Board for this hugely appreciated award. Reviewing for the journal brings me an enormous amount of inspiration and fulfilment, and I always learn so much from the process. I feel particularly passionately about the importance of compassion as a reviewer, and always try to put myself in the author’s shoes to make my comments relevant and, I hope, useful. Compassionate feedback on my own writing has had a powerful effect on my scholarship journey and I hugely value being part of such a supportive, nurturing and collegiate community. I really feel this award is for the whole army of JLDHE reviewers as it’s entirely a team effort, but I’ll gratefully keep it safe for you! I strongly encourage all colleagues within the LD community (and beyond) to consider reviewing. It’s a fantastic and rewarding way to feel immersed in and thankful for our professional discipline.
Dr Vic Boyd is a Senior Lecturer APPD at the University of the West of Scotland and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
