1566 | Case study | Mental health support service for mathematics and statistics students Mental illness diagnoses are on the rise, and it is estimated that one in ten young people in Scotland have a mental health condition. Universities are seeing an unprecedented increase in students accessing mental health support services. These services are subject to long waiting times and under-funding. This article details an innovative model of support for students in the mathematics and statistics department at a Scottish university. This service has facilitated over 100 appointments since its launch in 2021, and serves as a much-needed listening and sign-posting service for all students in the mathematics and statistics department. | Maggie Scott M.R.Scott@salford.ac.uk |
